Court remands blacksmith into prison custody

A Fiapre Circuit Court has remanded Kwadwo Akuoko 40, a blacksmith into prison custody for allegedly manufacturing arms without authority.

He pleaded not guilty.

Police Superintendent Alhaji Maama Arhin, Brong Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that the police had information that the accused has been manufacturing guns and selling them at GH¢350 each to criminals at Adae, a community near Sunyani.

He said an informant purchased two guns and requested for more.

He said in the process the police, who have laid ambush moved in and arrested him.

Superintendent Arhin said during a search, the police discovered 10 manufactured guns, a bunch of shot gun chamber buttons, 26 pieces of alphabetically embossed keys and three locally manufactured shot gun chambers.

He said the accused, after investigations was charged with the offence.
