Court Orders The Arrest Of The Queenmother

And Another As Police Disobeys The High Court Order

The koforidua High Court presided over His Lordship Justice Kwofie has issued an arrest warrant for the arrest of Nana Afrakoma II and her nephew Benard Owabena Owiredu a self-styled Omanhene of the Akwamu Traditional Area.

The warrant was as a result of the refusal of the two to appear before the court to answer a case of contempt brought against them by the Nana Antwi Manu, theheard of family Yaa Ansaa faction of the Akwamu Chieftaincy dispute.
The dispute which could be said to be among the longest chieftaincy dispute in Ghana is about twenty (22) years old. It has taken the lives of many prominent sons and daughters of Akwamu but is yet to be finally determined by the Eastern Regional House of chiefs.

A record number of thirteen (13) lawyers have been casualties in the disputes as the Queenmother keeps hiring and firing her lawyers and have caused to be reminded in prison custody some prominent chiefs and sons of Akwamu.
As a result of a ruling by the House of chiefs that none of the parties to the disputes could hold him/herself as the Omanhene of the Traditional Area a ruling which had been dishonored by the Yaa Botwe faction led by the Nana Afrokoma and Kwabena Owiredu.
Their act of commission provoked the Family Head, of the Royal Yaa Ansaa Family to institute a legal action of a case of contempt against the Yaa Botwe Faction at the Koforidua High Court, hence the ruling by His Lordship Justice Kwofie when the two defendants failed to appear before the court.
It would interest readers to know that the Divisional Police Command in Akosombo, it was alleged dispatched his men to effect the orders of the High Court but failed the republic. As a result of some deliberate acts of commission, the two wanted people were rather given additional support to orgnise a Home Coming Summit, with Kwabena Oweridu still holding himself as Omanhene.
The actions of the Akosombo Police command could at best be describe as applauding, inefficient and are in contempt of the court orders. Some members of the public are alleging that they visited the accused persons to have some drinks and gifts.
A member of the community informed this correspondent that the police does know that Akwamus are closely neated together and whatever they came to do in Akwamu the Queenmother would expose them because they heard from a linguist of the Queenmother bragging that the police are weak and they need money for which their services have been paid so that the court order would not see the day of light.
