Police arrest three persons for attempted murder in Eastern Region

Koforidua, Oct 25, GNA - Police in the Eastern Region have arrested three persons for attempting to murder a 14-year- old Junior High School pupil from Awukugua at a shrine at Asenema in the Akuapem North District.

The suspects are Kofi Larbi, alias Kiki, 42, a taxi driver, Yaw Mensah, 58, and Kofi Tordzro, 25, both farmers.

According to police sources, on 0ctober 21, the suspects attempted to murder the boy at the shrine in Asenema, after Kofi Larbi asked him to accompany him to transport some passengers to that town. The taxi driver, who is known to the victim, then in the company of the other suspects sent the boy to the shrine and on reaching there forced him to enter the compound to steal some items for them. In the process they threatened to kill him for refusing to enter the shrine and to pull some objects they asked him to steal. However, he managed to escape into the bush and was rescued by a hunter, who sent him to Asenema.

The Police said their investigations revealed that the fetish priest of the shrine, who denied any involvement, was innocent. He has, therefore, been set free.
