Labourer in court for stealing from Mosque

Kade, April 25, GNA - Abdulai Issah, a 46-year-old farm labourer, wa= s on Friday arraigned before the Kade District Magistrate Court for breakin= g into a mosque and stealing an amount of money. Issah pleaded not guilty to four counts of possessing a pick axe, pliers, spanner, and other implements intended for unlawful entry into th= e Akyem Nkwantanang Central Mosque with intent to commit crime. The other charges are unlawful causing damage to a wooden box valued at GH¢10 and three padlocks worth GH¢6.0. He was, however, remanded in p= rison custody to re-appear on May 7, 2010. Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that a= t about 1030 hours on April 16, this year, two boys who were assigned duty to clean the mosque for Friday prayers went to the place only to meet the accused inside the worship house carrying with him a sack and a big bag. He said the boys then ran back to inform a member of the mosque committee. When they returned to the mosque, the Issah was still there and with the assistance of a witness in the case they arrested him. They found out that Issah had broken the money box fixed to the wall of the mosque and stole GH¢99 in it. He was sent to the Kade Police station and when he was searched the c= ash was found on him together with the pick-axe, a spanner, pliers and three padlocks, which were used to secure the money box.
