Man arrested in possession of fake National ID Card

Accra, July 3, GNA - The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested one Eric Emmanuel, 22, a Nigerian national at Paga border post in the Upper East Region when he attempted crossing the border with the yet to be issued National Identification Card. Mr. Moses Kwabena Gyamfi, Acting Deputy Director of Operations of the GIS told newsmen that, Emmanuel was also found with various forged documents including a complimentary card of President J.A Kufuor. He said the suspect claimed he obtained the identity card by paying 35 Ghana cedis to some other suspects who were being sought by the security agencies.

Mr. Gyamfi warned that similar frauds were being perpetrated by people claiming to be representatives of business companies. He said the GIS has so far blacklisted companies, including, Akoko Goldmine Company, Capital Farms limited, Stevenson and Kufuor Legal Firm, Neat Food Limited, Gamin Insurance Company, Google Ventures and Sunshine Travel and Tours Limited, Accra. He said investigations have revealed that these companies were being used to fraudulently extort huge sums of monies from mainly foreigners prior to their arrival in the country, believing that they were transacting genuine businesses.
