Sekondi, Oct. 19, GNA - Adams Yusif, a welder at the Waste Management Department of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, (STMA) has been fined GHC480 on the premises for unlawful purpose, attempting to commit crime and causing unlawful damage.

In default of the fine, the convict, also known as Amuda, serve 24 months imprisonment in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Gordon Osei, told a Sekondi Magistrate's court that there was a cable theft at the Department and all efforts to trace the culprits proved futile.

He said at about 0200 hours on June 26 this year, the complainant and two other security men who were on duty at Department heard a strange noise.

Inspector Osei said the complainant rushed to the scene and saw the accused in "blue-black shirt and three-quarters trousers" standing on top of a vehicle parked in the yard.

He said the complainant called out the name of the accused, who sensing danger, jumped from the vehicle and managed to escape from the scene.

Inspector Osei said the two other security men came to the scene and they detected that the electrical cables which supply power to one of the offices were cut off.

He said at about 0530 hours, the complainant and his two colleagues went to the house of the accused at Sekondi West Ridge and arrested the accused who was wearing the trousers.

Inspector Osei said the accused was handed over to the Police and during investigations, the room of the accused was searched and the "Blue-Black Shirt" was found.

He said the accused denied the allegations levelled against him but pleaded guilty in court.
