Two suspected Fulani armed robbers in prison custody

Bolgatanga (UE) Aug. 19, GNA - The Bolgatanga Circuit Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Sunu, has discharged 13 out of 15 suspected armed robbers, believed to be of Fulani extraction.

The two, according to the presiding judge, would remain in prison custody to reappear on August 30.

The suspects allegedly robbed 65 students of the St Francis Girls’ Senior High School, Jirapa, in Upper West Region, who were returning to the Upper East Region for holidays on August 6 on a Metro Bus with Registration number GT 2870Z.

The 13 suspects made up of four juveniles and nine adults were discharged because of the lack of evidence whilst the two accused, Alhassan Dauda and Abdulai Dauda were held in custody.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Azalekor Quarshie, said the bus was returning home with the students for holidays when it was attacked by the robbers in the outskirts of Nakong, on the Bolgatanga/Wa Road.

They made away with various sums of cash, mobile phones and personal belongings.

He said the police were notified on phone after the incident had occurred and a swoop was organized immediately at the nearby community of Nakong, one kilometre away from the scene, where the suspects were arrested in the bush.

He said an announcement was made after the students had made their individual reports at the Police Station, which helped in the identification of the two accused persons.
