Two men apprehended for possessing fake currency

Sunyani, Oct. 2, GNA - The Police on Friday arrested two residents o= f Kukuom in Asunafo South District of Brong Ahafo for possessing fake currenc= y amounting to GH C350.00. The suspects, Alfred Kumah, a 24 year-old farmer, and Emmanuel Asare, 23, a driver have been placed in custody pending investigations. The fake currency was in different denominations: three GHc50 notes, nine GHc20 notes and two GHc10 notes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Robert Ayalingo, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, confirmed the story to journalists at Sunyani. He said that on September 27 this year, Kofi Asare left his shop at Kukuom in the care of his 13-year-old daughter. DCP Ayalingo said at about 1630 hours that day, Kumah sent Sofo with fake GHc10 currency note to buy canned malt drink from the shop. The Regional Police Commander said that at about 1900 hours the same day, Kumah again sent Rahida Mohammed to the same shop to buy canned malt drink with fake GHc10 note.

DCOP Robert Ayalingo said when Mohammed was asked where he got the fak= e money she mentioned the name of Kumah. The Regional Police Commander said when Kumah was arrested and searched, two GHC50 fake notes and one GHC20 note, all suspected to be fake currency, were found in his pocket. DCOP Ayalingo said upon interrogation, Kumah said fake notes were given to him by Emmanuel Asare and led the police to arrest him. When police searched Asare's room one GHC50 note and eight GHC20.00 notes bearing the same serial number were found, DCOP Ayalingo added.
