Two in court for car snatching

Accra, June 14, GNA - Two persons who allegedly snatched a taxi cab from a driver at gun point at Ashalaja, near Amasaman, were on Tuesday put before an Accra Circuit Court charged with conspiracy and robbery. Israel Anane Gadri, driver and Paul Fiadzo Tamakloe, a farm labourer, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court, presided over by Mr Eric Kyei Baffour, remanded them into police custody to reappear on June 27. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Reindolf Agyeman said at about 1400 hours on February 6, this year, the two accused persons engaged the services of Mr Mustapha Seidu, driver of the Kia Rio cab, to take them to Ashalaja, where they had a plot of land. On their arrival at the outskirts of the Ashalaja Township, the accused persons pulled out a locally manufactured pistol and a gun and ordered him to surrender his car.

The driver obliged and the accused persons fled with the car. He reported the incident at the Amasaman Police Station. On February 12, this year, the two accused persons were engaged in a similar crime but they were caught after sustaining gunshot wounds during a shootout with the Police. DSP Agyemang said the two accused persons were currently receiving treatment at hospital. He said Mr Seidu had identified the accused persons as those who snatched his vehicle from him. 14 June 11
