Two drivers of Expresso Ghana jailed 18 months

Apam (C/R), Dec. 18, GNA - The Apam District Magistrate’s court on Friday jailed two employees of Kassapa Communication Company for 18 months each for siphoning fuel for the running mast at the area.

Richard Brafo, 32, and Eric Anim Owusu, 34, all drivers of the company stationed at Apam, pleaded guilty to the two counts charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing.

The third accused person Samuel Abekah, a dismissed Night watchman, charged with abetment of crime, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody to re-appear on December 29 2011.

Police chief Inspector Peter Horath Mensah told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe that on December 13, information reached the complainant, who is a Mechanical Engineer of the Expresso Ghana Limited stationed at Cape Coast, that some thieves were siphoning fuel from the company mast site.

The prosecution said while the police were informed, some residents around the mast site also organised themselves and arrested the culprits after blocking their escape route with cement blocks before the police arrived.

He said when a Nissan Pick-up that was being used for operation was searched, 14 yellow containers were found with fuel in them.

The accused people were therefore handed over to the Apam police.
