Two JSS girls in court for stealing

Cape Coast, April 11, Two Junior Secondary School (JSS) girls who allegedly stole items worth 10 million cedis were on Wednesday remanded into the custody of their parents by a circuit court at Cape Coast. The pleas of Memuna Abubakari 15 and Kate Bart-Plange 16, both in form three were charged with causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing were not taken and they would reappear on Wednesday April 18. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that the girls who are friends live at Amisaano, near Elmina, with their parents.

He alleged that last Saturday at about 15 hours, the two girls went to a hostel owned by one Madam Mavis Cobbina, which is being rented by students of the Cape Coast polytechnic. They used a pliers and a screwdriver to break into four different rooms rented by the students who are currently on holidays. He said the girls then stole a Sony ghetto blaster, a computer and its speakers, a television set, canned food, a two-burner gas cooker, a Nokia mobile phone, tape recorder and some clothing all valued at 10 million cedis.

Chief Inspector Azasoo said when they were about to leave the premises with their booty, Madam Cobbina chanced upon them and had them arrested.

He said in their caution statements they claimed they wanted to sell the items to enable them pay for their mock examinations and use the clothing for the Easter beach party.
