Trader granted bail over sale of vehicle

A trader who absconded with a vehicle he was supposed to sell and return proceeds on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Charles Agyekum charged with fraudulent breach of trust, pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mr M. E. Essandoh admitted Agyekum to bail in the sum of GH¢ 30,000 with one surety to be a public servant earning not less than GH¢1,000 a month.

He is to reappear on December 2.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Francis Tarson said the complainant was Adjei Sefah, a wielder in Accra.

Chief Tarsan said somewhere in December last year, the accused with intent to commit crime collected the complainant’s unregistered Honda Odyseey and photocopies of the vehicle to sell it for him.

Accused person, prosecution said, failed to return the vehicle or the proceeds and went into hiding for four months.

When complainant met the accused and confronted him over his vehicle, prosecution said Agyekum gave him GH¢ 5,000 and showed him a cheque covering the balance which he (the accused) promised to return in a weeks’ time.

Chief Inspector Tarsan said the accused person did not honour his promise so the complainant reported the matter to the Police and he was arrested on May 7, this year.

When Agyekum was granted Police Enquiry Bail he went into hiding and a forfeiture was served on his surety after the surety was arrested.

Prosecution said the surety later managed to produce Agyekum.
