Tomatoes Growers Association of Akuffokrom near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, have appealed to the Inspector General of Police for the release of their three members who were arrested in a scoop.

The members, who were arrested on August 7, are Mr Hayford Agyare, Mr George Oduro and Mr Yaw Dwumo.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Mr Richard Anani, Chairman for the Association, said the farmers were arrested in their rooms while they were asleep.

According to Mr Anani, the real suspects the police were pursuing are 'weed' smokers who often wield dangerous weapons to attack residents in the area.

He said when the culprits saw the security personnel, they took to their heels.

When the GNA visited the Nsawam Police Station, the arrested members of the association were still in police custody.
