Three remanded on robbery charge

Three persons were on Tuesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court on the charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

James Tetteh, unemployed, Emmanuel Kelly, Electrician, and Joseph Kpakpo Allotey, Auto Mechanic were said to have conspired and robbed one Emelia Addae Genfi and Paa Gyimah Genfi of $ 19,950; GH? 8,000.00; €5,000; £900; three mobile phones, one Ipad and a box containing jewelries together with other items.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges but were remanded by the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh to reappear on August 28, for trial.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court that the complainant Emelia and Paa Gyimah are a couple and reside at East Legon, while James, Emmanuel, Joseph and others now at large all reside at Madina.

He said on March 30, at about 01:50 hours, while the complainants were asleep, the accused persons climbed the fence wall of their house and entered their yard.

The prosecution said the accused persons used an implement to force open the burglar proof of one of the window and entered the building. They climbed upstairs and used a big stone to hit the complainants’ bedroom door.

He told the court that at gun point, they ordered the complainants to lie down, and they succeeded in robbing them of the above listed items.

Police Chief Inspector Adu said at about 03:00 hours, a witness in the case through a tracking device which was installed on Emelia’s phone assisted the police to track the accused persons.

James and Emmanuel were arrested, while Joseph and the other accomplices managed to escape.

He said a search conducted in the room of Joseph revealed an amount of $ 19,950; GH? 410.00; £900; €5,000, three mobile phones, one Ipad and a box containing jewelries.

He said on June 25, Joseph who went into hiding was arrested by the Madina police.
