Tema Regional Police round up 30 suspects

Tema, Aug. 25, GNA - Personnel from Tema Regional Police rounded up 30 suspects believed to be armed robbers and hardened criminals allegedly planning to attack some targeted areas within the municipality.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Jonathan Yakubu, Tema Regional Police Commander speaking to newsmen at Tema on Thursday, said acting upon a tip-off, the police organised swoops at Tema New Town, Ashaiman, Prampram, Ada and Dodowa.

He said these were some of the areas noted to be hideouts for criminals and trafficking of narcotics within the region. ACP Yakubu said 30 suspects were arrested together with exhibits suspected to be narcotics at the end of the exercise. He said they would be screened, and those found to be involved in criminal activities prosecuted.

The Regional Police Commander, assured the public that the police in collaboration with other security agencies, would deal ruthlessly with armed robbers and hardened criminals, adding "We will carry the fight to them if they dare try and disturb public peace." ACP Yakubu reiterated the call on the public to volunteer vital information on criminals to the police, to enable them clamp down on them.

"When the public team up with the police and other security agencies, we will surely be far ahead of criminals. By such co-operation we will all live in absolute peace and tranquillity," he added.
