Tema Police search for two fraudsters

The Tema Police Command has mounted a search for two men suspected to be part of a syndicate of fraudsters operating in the Tema Police Region.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, Tema Police Public Affairs Officer, said in a statement that one of the suspects is fair in complexion and tall, the second person is dark, short and have bulky eyes.

ASP Turkson said the fraudsters usually operate in communities one, two, 10 and 12, as well as Sakumono and its environs.

The modus operandi of the fraudsters is to approach victims and ask them for directions to places,

"They later try to convince you to part with money or valuable items which they make you believe will make you successful in life, or get you out of some spiritual problems", she said.

ASP Turkson said some scammers also told their victims through text messages, phone calls and social media platforms that they had won prizes for promotions they had not entered.

They then ask their victims to pay sums of money as processing fee to enable them retrieve those prizes.

She cautioned the public to be extra vigilant and careful about people who approach them for various types of help as the police had received numerous complaints about such fraudsters.

She urged residents to be circumspect in dealing with strangers who ask them to make financial commitments, or give them electrical gadgets such as tablets, mobile phones and laptops in exchange for favours.
