Teenager placed in police custody for defilement

Abuakwa (Ash), May 18, GNA - Kwadwo Awuah, a teenage school drop-out from Nerebehi in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti was on Wednesday placed in police custody for allegedly defiling a kindergarten pupil.

Miss Janet Fokuo, the victim's class teacher and complainant in the case with the assistance of some concerned inhabitants and other teachers escorted the suspect to the Police Station. A source at the Abuakwa Police Station told the GNA that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect who lived very close to the school was always stealing cooked food for the pupils. The source said due to the suspect's deviant behaviour, teachers of the school kept an eagle's eye on his movements to prevent him from sneaking into the school to steal food again. According to the police source one of the school children saw Awuah interacting with the little girl and later luring her into his room and locked it up.

The source said the child informed the teachers in the school and when the suspect's door was forced open he was caught in the act. Awuah admitted having defiled the victim during interrogation the police source added. Mr Imoro Azumah, Medical Director of the Abuakwa Health Centre said medical examination conducted by the centre confirmed that the girl had been defiled.
