Teacher, 3 Others Caught Using Cocaine

Four people, including a teacher of a private school (name withheld) at Bubiashie in Accra, were arrested by the Kaneshie Police yesterday sniffing a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.

Daniel Quaye, 35, the teacher, was caught behind the Awudome JSS cluster of schools together with Alfred Tackie, 29, Nii Armah Bruce, 35 and Bright Senyo, 49.

The Accra West District Police Commander, SDP Fatima Fuseini, told the Times that the suspects were arrested at their hideout in the act upon a tip-off.

At the time of the arrest, she said Quaye who looked very dizzy and could not even talk attempted to escape by climbing the roof of a wooden structure.

DSP Fuseini explained that a number of devices described as "buta" and said to be used for drug sniffing were found on the suspects.

She said Quaye, during interrogations admitted that the substances found on him were cocaine and Indian hemp which he and his friends take in at their leisure times.

At the police station, the Times found Quaye sitting looking on unconcerned and occasionally bursting out into laughter, while the others were very furious.

Speaking to the Times, he said, he found nothing wrong with his action since he started long before he became a teacher.
