Student remanded for assault

Breman Asikuma (C/R), March 5, GNA - An 18-year-old final year student of Breman Asikuma Secondary School, Charles Amoakoatta, has been remanded in police custody for coursing harm to colleague students. The Asikuma magistrate court presided over by Mr Asiedu Asmah did not take his plea when he appeared on the February 28, 2006. He is to re-appear on March 7, 2006.

Prosecuting, police Chief Inspector J.A. Naduetey told the court that on the February 26 this year, Mr Isaac Koomson, also a student had a fight with one George Owusu at the school dinning hall over fish. He said the attention of the dinning hall master was called and he gave two pieces of fish to the complainant Isaac Owusu and they left to their dormitory, adding that, there the fight started again and the accused Charles Amoakotta went in to separate them. Complainant gave him a slap, but in retaliation the accused pushed him down from the first floor of the story building and he became unconscious and he was send to Our Lady of Grace Hospital but latter was referred to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital for treatment. Chief Inspector Naduetey said after investigation he was charged with the offence and was put before the court. 5 March 06
