Rainstorm displaces more than 200 persons at Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A) March 23, GNA - More than 220 persons have been displaced at the Zongo Community of Kransieso in Nkoranza following a sever= e rainstorm that ripped off the roofs of about 42 buildings at the weekend. Three persons were injured during the incident and Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum; Nkoranza South District Chief Executive rushed them to Saint Theresa's Hospital at Nkoranza.

The injured persons, Fatima Bintu, 18, Afishatu Bawa, 90 and Philomina Boateng, one-year-old, are responding to treatment. Some of the houses that were completely destroyed included the family house of the Gyaasehene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Nana Amos Gyare Baffo and that of the assembly member for the area, Mr. Haruna Awudu. The public toilet and a maize storage building. Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Nkoranza, Mr= .. Evans Osei-Worae, Nkoranza South District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, (NADMO) estimated the damage to property at several millions of Ghana Cedis.

He described the rainstorm as the heaviest at Nkoranza this year and said the displaced persons are staying with friends and relatives. The District NADMO Coordinator said his outfit had made a report on th= e incident ready for submission to the National headquarters of the organisation. Mr. Osei-Worae said he was liaising with Nkoranza South District Assembly to arrange for relief items towards the rehabilitation of the disaster victims.
