Policeman shoots himself with AK47

A Policeman, Lance Corporal Francis Adusei of the Service Workshop, has allegedly shot himself with a service rifle at his residence at Atomic Police Barracks, Kwabenya, MyNewsGh.com reports.

According to a police situational report sighted by MyNewsGh.com, the incident occurred on Monday, May 6, 2024, at about 8:45 am.

Neighbours indicate that they heard a gunshot from the residence of Block 3, Room No. 10B, and when they rushed in, it was discovered that he had shot himself with an AK47 assault rifle, number GHGP/58NHQ/PU/AZ6303 – 205, which was found lying on the bed.

Some bloodstains and a pool of blood were found on the bedspread and the floor, respectively.

Also found at the scene were one empty shell and one round of AK47 ammunition in his bedroom, with the rifle on the bed and the door locked from the inside.

The Lance Corporal was said to have been rushed to the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Hospital (GAEC) for medical attention, where he was stabilised and later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital emergency ward and was responding to treatment.

Francis Adusei however died at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital while on admission.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
