Police patrol team arrest nine persons during yuletide

Wa, Jan 8, GNA - The vigilance of the police in Wa during the Christmas and New Year festivities led to the arrest of nine persons suspected of committing crimes in some parts of the Upper West Region. Assistant Commissioner of Police Robert Ayalingo, Upper West Regional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday, that Adama Alhassan and Iddrisu Adams both Fulani were arrested at Kunfabiala near Wa for pointing a locally manufactured pistol at a driver and passengers who demanded their transport fare from them. Francis Kabiri, Fidelis Kabiri and Bashiru Salia were arrested at Jirapa for stealing three motorbikes at three different locations while Yakubu Seidu and Martin Effah were arrested at Gho and Sahe for illegally felling commercial trees. Mr Ayalingo said the police command was also pursuing other suspected criminals who committed crimes during the period but escaped. He said while some of the suspects had been arraigned, others would be put before court this week. "We shall intensify our patrol system to ensure that the crime wave in the region reduces to the barest minimum," Mr Ayalingo said.
