Police arrest eight suspects

Police in Brong-Ahafo have arrested eight people in connection with the protracted chieftaincy dispute, which turned bloody at Tuobodom last Wednesday.

Six people were confirmed dead, and several others injured in the clash which ensued between supporters of the two rival chiefs in the town.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maxwell Atingane, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani on Monday, that three of the suspects are yet to be arraigned before court.

According to him, the three, Nana Kwadwo Tano Bosomfour, Stephen Amoako and Ibrahim Mumuni played key roles in the clash.

DCOP Atingane added that the other five suspects, Gordon Afrifa, Amadu Salifu, Thomas Opoku, Richard Amponsah and Enoch Owusu, were being interrogated and would be put before court presently

He disclosed that the Brong-Ahafo Regional Security Council had deployed a contingent of 142 police and military personnel, to maintain law and order in the town.
