One killed and another injured in armed robbery at Bawku

Bawku (U/E), May 22, GNA - One person, identified as Mustapha Halidu alias Konkonsa, was on Thursday killed and another, Osman Issaka was injured in a suspected case of armed robbery in the Bawku Municipality.

The two, both Mossi men were among many others in four vehicles travelling on the Bawku-Sankasi road towards Sankasi when the armed men stopped them at Nakom, near Pusiga, and ordered them all to lie down on the ground while they searched and collected their money and other valuable items.

Captain Victor Abbey, Commander in charge of the Air Bourne Force Detachment in Bawku, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that it was in the course of forcing the victims to give out their valuables that Halidu was shot dead and Issaka was wounded.

One of the vehicles, believed to be Halidu's was set ablaze before the armed men ran away from the scene, no one has been arrested yet but the Security were investigating, he said.

Captain Abbey said the wounded man and the body of the deceased had since been sent to the Bolgatanga Hospital. He said the curfew in Pusiga had been reviewed to start at 1200 hours to 0600 hours. He said the Bawku Municipality had remained calm with the people going about their normal duties. Meanwhile the Security Forces are on the alert to ensure that the peace in the area was not breached.
