"Old soldier" in court for stealing goat

Kade, March 22, GNA - Kwabena Twum, an ex-serviceman, popularly known as Old Soldier, was on Tuesday, arraigned before the Kade District Magistrates' Court for stealing a goat valued at GH¢60. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody to re-appear on March 24. Giving the facts of the case, Police General Sergeant, Ambrose Akpablie, told the court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu that, the complainant, Kwasi Ayim, was a driver, who also rears animals and resides a= t Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District.

He said on November 19, 2010, at about 07:00 hours, the complainant tied his goat in his house and left for his farm and returned at about 1500 hours only to realize that the goat was missing. The prosecutor said at about 0130 hours, the complainant decided to attend to natures call at a public place of convenience, only to spot Twum holding a rope and trying to catch a goat but did not succeed. Sensing that someone had seen him, Twum quickly put the rope in his pocket and walked away. The prosecutor said the complainant, who had by then identified Twum, then suspected him of stealing his goat. He said that same morning, at about 0700 hours, the complainant called a friend and a policeman and the three went to the house of the accused where they found the complainant's goat and arrested Twum. In his caution statement, Twum admitted that indeed the goat was found in his house but it was sent there by one Kofi Taller in his absence. However, the accused could not lead the police to locate the said Kofi Taller.
