Nursing mother granted GHc5000 cedi-bail for assault

A 23 year-old nursing mother, Cynthia Akapo, has been granted a GHc5,000 bail by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for inflicting cuts on the face of a hairdresser whom she accused of dating her husband.

She pleaded guilty and would re-appear before the court on August 15.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Albert Adiita, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainant, Dorcas Adonko, was a girl friend of Moses Owusu, the accused person’s husband.

They both reside at Jordan near Asankrangwa.

He said on June 21, at about 1330 hours, the complainant went to the accused person’s mother in-law’s shop and brought 10 cups of rice but on her way back, the accused person followed her and claimed it was her husband who had brought the rice for the complainant.

She, consequently, ordered her to give the rice to her but the complainant refused.

DSP Adiita said the accused person then attacked her and poured eight cups of the rice, valued GHc56, away. She also removed a sharp blade from her pocket and cut the complainant several times on her face and she sustained a deep cut on her right cheek and right shoulder. Cynthia also bit her right fourth finger.

DSP Aitta said the complainant was issued with Police Medical form to visit the Catholic Hospital at Asankrangwa for treatment and her injuries were duly endorsed by the medical officer.

According to the Prosecutor, the accused person was later arrested and in her caution statement, before an independent witness, admitted the offence and was charged with the offence.
