Notorious criminal remanded for possessing stolen item

Dormaa-Ahenkro, Oct. 15, GNA - Muniru Abdulai, a

notorious criminal, was on Friday placed on remand by the

Dormaa Circuit Court for allegedly possessing a stolen

motorbike and resisting lawful arrest. Muniru was caught riding the bike with an accomplice

identified as Francois who fled when the Nkrankwanta police

tried to arrest them. Muniru would re-appear before the court on October 19. Police Inspector George Kumah told the court presided

over by Mr. Alexander Osei-Tutu that Muniru was a known

criminal at Nkrankwanta but had always managed to evade

the police. He said on September 30, the Nkrankwanta police had a

tip-off that Muniru and Francois were riding a stolen

motorbike towards Nkrankwanta. Prosecution said the police quickly mounted a barrier on

the Diabaa-Nkrankwanta road to apprehend them but they

ignored the police signal for them to stop and sped off. He said when they realized that the police were catching

up with them, they abandoned the motorbike and bolted. "Later on Muniru was later sighted in a bush and was

arrested after a fierce struggle but Francois was nowhere to

be found", Inspector Kumah added.
