Mother and daughter fined for offensive conduct

Techiman(BA), Sept. 27, GNA - A Techiman Circuit Court has fined a mother and her daughter 360 Ghana cedis (3.6 million cedis) on their own plea for offensive conduct.

Janet Obeng 40, a farmer and her daughter Faustina Twumwaa 22, an apprentice hairdresser appeared before the court for casting insinuations on Madam Matilda Owusu, a teacher at Droboso in the Wenchi District of Brong-Ahafo.

The court presided over by Mr Godwin Kwasi-Kumah, ordered the accused persons to serve three months imprisonment each in hard labour in default of the 180 Ghana cedis (1.8 million cedis) fine each. The accused persons were in addition, bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months with a surety each or in default serve 12 months imprisonment each in hard labour.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Adubia Nyamesah, prosecuting said sometime in March this year, the accused persons consistently confronted the complainant without any justification. She said the complainant lodged a complaint with an elderly person at Droboso and after the arbitration found the accused persons guilty and advised to behave well.

The prosecution said the accused persons not satisfied with the arbitration engaged the complainant in a fight in the evening of August 23 this year and insulted the complainant as well. She said the complainant reported the matter to Wenchi Police and the accused persons were arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
