"Man of God" Attempts to Rape Policeman's Wife in a Hotel

Koforidua, May 27, GNA - A pastor who claimed to be an Evangelist from the Power of Jesus Church in Kasoa is in Police custody for attempting to rape the wife of a Police Constable on Thursday at Amsterdam Hotel situated at Aboabo in Koforidua.

Evangelist Kwesi Oppong, 29, was said to be lodging at the hotel since Monday to do ministration when the policeman's wife heard about him and decided to go and consult him for prayers.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency Superintendent of Police David L.K. Tefutor, the New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, said the woman went to the hotel at about 1000 hours on Thursday for the consultation.

He said because her husband was on duty, the woman called her husband's friend, Constable Emmanuel Mensah, telling him that she was at the hotel to consult a Pastor but he was trying to rape her.

Constable Mensah went to the hotel room and saw the pastor naked. "Constable Mensah introduced himself as a police man and a struggle ensued between them," he said.

During the struggle, the Evangelist picked a beer bottle and hit Constable Mensah's forehead with it, cutting him and he lost consciousness.

The woman shouted for help, drawing people to the hotel who assisted to arrest the pastor and took him to the New Juaben Police Station.
