A 60-year-old trader has been handed a six month jail term by an Accra Domestic Violence and Gender Based court for indecent assault.

The court, presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, found the accused, Adolf Sarpei, guilty of the offence for inserting his finger into the vagina of the victim, aged 4.

According to the prosecution, the accused committed the offence at 4:00pm at Amamomo on August 19, last year.

Although Adolf had vehemently denied the charge at the initial stages of the hearing, the court after full trial found him culpable and was jailed for six months.

Prosecution, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbiri, said the victim lived with the parents at the same house with Adolf.

He said Emmanuel Allotey, the victim’s father, and Adolf are family members and that on the said day, the victim was in the house when the accused lured her to a spot where he was sitting listening to news and inserted his fingers into the vagina of the girl.

D/Insp Atimbiri stated that during the period, the complainant who is the victim’s mother who was inside her room heard Adolf calling the victim and peeped outside and saw the accused putting his hands into the victim’s panties.

The prosecutor said the complainant rushed to the scene and confronted Adolf over the act, but he denied and left the house.

The complainant informed the husband, leading to the arrest of Adolf.
