Man, 59, impregnates girl, 13

A 59-year-old businessman who allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old form two student has been remanded in prison custody by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District.

George Asiedu pleaded not guilty to defilement and would reappear on June, 19, 2013.

Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang told the presiding judge, Mr Yaw Atta Sampong that the victim lives with the grandmother at Akim Aboabo whiles the accused also lives in the same town.

She said sometime in December 2012, the victim was leaving for school when Asiedu who was washing a car asked her to do some work for him, but she refused.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said Asiedu later lured the victim into his room and had sex with her which resulted in a pregnancy.

She said the accused then warned the victim not to inform anyone about the act else he would kill her.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said on May 25 some concerned citizens informed the grandmother of the girls situation and when confronted she said the accused was the cause for her pregnancy.

A report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested.
