Labourer in court for death threats

Tarkwa (W/R), Sept. 7 GNA - Allan Wireko, a 31-year old labourer, has been remanded in to prison custody by a Tarkwa circuit court for threatening to kill a local radio announcer at Wassa Afransie in the Western Region.

Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Kwame Badu and the accused person both reside at Wassa Afransie.

He said in August, the chief of the town, Nana Kwasi Oppong asked the complainant to make a radio announcement on the installation of a new queen mother of Wassa Afransie.

He said the accused person who was against the installation took his double barrel gun and headed to the complainant's house and over there he threatened to kill him if he continued making the announcement.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said on August 18, a report was made to the Police and the accused person went in to hiding.

He said the chief of the town then organized some youth who apprehended the accused person and was handed over to the police who after some investigation charged him with the offence.
