Juvenile offences on the increase in Ho Municipality

Ho, Nov. 22, GNA - Assistant Superintendent of Police Rita Narh, Volta Regional Coordinator of Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of Ghana Police Service on Wednesday expressed concern about the upsurge of juvenile offences within Ho Municipality. She said between four and six juvenile cases were reported to the unit weekly.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Ho, ASP Narh said the offences were mostly sodomy and defilement and police investigations indicated that most of the offenders had single parents and in some cases slept in the same room with their parents. ASP Narh said the police could not prosecute the offenders due to lack of juvenile courts and shelters.

She said the offenders were counselled and allowed to go home with the hope that they would reform. ASP Narh appealed to the Ho Municipal Assembly to assist the unit to facilitate its operations.
