"I slashed my wife because she threatened to kill me''

Accra, March 1, GNA - A 70-year-old man,

Gregory Atsitsogbe on Tuesday appeared before an Accra

Circuit Court for inflicting cutlass wounds on his 60-year-old

wife following a misunderstanding. Atsitsogbe, charged with causing harm, pleaded

guilty with explanation. In his explanation, he told the court presided over

by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa that his wife Beatrice

Asamoah whom he had had six children, with only two

surviving, held his penis and threatened to kill him and in his

defence pulled a cutlass and slashed her hand. "I also bit my tongue in the process," he added. The court after listening to his explanation entered a

plea of not guilty and admitted him to bail in the sum of

GHc10,000 bail with one surety to reappear on March 15. When the court asked Atsitsogbe whether he had

paid some of the medical bills for his wife, he said he was not

aware his wife visited the hospital because she was no longer

staying with him. When the court asked him to give her some money,

Atsitsogbe said he had no money on him and that he was

unemployed and was also suffering from stroke. Atsitsogbe however dipped his hands into his

pocket and brought GHc0.80p as the money that he had on

him. Soon after the court asked him to add some more,

he brought out GHc0.20p, saying 93That's all I have." Meanwhile, the court has tasked the complainant

and accused who had been married for 40 years, to see if the

matter could be resolved amicably. The case as presented by Assistant Superintendent
