Housewife appears before court for offensive conduct

Nyinahin (Ash), May 20, GNA- A 27-year-old housewife, Adwoa Tanii of Onyinawusu near Kwanfifi in the Atwima Mponua District has been granted one million cedis bail for insulting Mr. Kofi Fofie, Unit Committee Secretary of the town.

Tanii pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on May 28 this year. Giving the facts of the case, Detective Chief Inspector David Nkrumah Danso told the Nyinahin Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Augustine Essah that the chiefs, Unit Committee and Elders of the town cautioned all owners of domestic animals such as sheep and goats to keep them in their pens and release them to graze between 3pm to 6pm. He said on January 22, this year, at about 0500 hrs, members of the Unit Committee of the town spotted three goats roaming and attempted to catch them, but the goats ran to the pen of the accused. Detective Chief Inspector Danso said the accused was then summoned by the Unit Committee to pay 50,000 cedis each for three animals for allowing them to roam at that time.

Prosecution said the accused paid the 150,000 cedis but immediately started raining insults on the Unit Committee Members saying "you must use the money to buy clothes for your wives". He further said a report was therefore made to the Nyinahin police and the accused was arrested and after investigation charged with the offence.
