Head porter jailed 12 years for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced one Abraham Adjetey Adjei, a head Porter, to 12 years imprisonment for robbing one Enoch Kwarteng Appiah of his Samsung S III mini mobile phone and an amount of GH¢5 at gun point.

Abraham was convicted on his own plea of guilty by the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri.

Abraham was also charged with three other counts of robbery but he pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector K. Adu told the court that the complainants are students, a driver and a welder from Teshie, while the convict also lives at Teshie.

He said on July 12, one Ankrah went to a nearby bush at Teshie to attend to natures call and on his way back home the convict attacked and pulled a knife on him, searched and took GH¢ 15.00 from his pocket.

He said Abraham also stabbed him with the knife in the stomach and took his Samsung S III mini mobile phone.

The prosecution said on July 28, Abraham, at knife point, attacked and robbed one Enoch of his Samsung mobile phone and GH¢ 5.00.

He told the court that some time ago, the convict also hid himself at the same bush at Teshie, attacked and robbed another Thomas of his rlg mobile phone and sold same for GH¢ 40.00.

Chief Inspector Adu said during the same period the convict attacked and inflicted various degrees of injuries on one Kwesi’s head and robbed him also of his GH¢ 15.00.

He said the watch dog committee members were informed and they placed surveillance on Abraham at Teshie and also informed the police and was later arrested.

The prosecution said a search conducted on him revealed a Samsung mobile phone that belonged to Enoch and admitted to the offence in his caution statement.
