GES Accountant On The Run

?200M FRAUD EXPOSED.

A scandal, in which the principal accountant of the Bawku West district office of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Joseph Osei-Tutu, is alleged to have embezzled more than ?200 million meant for the payment of allowances of Rural Education Volunteer (REV) teachers and their End-of-Service Benefits (ESB), has been uncovered.

Part of the amount was also in respect of capitation grants for basic schools in the district and part for the payment to Macmillan Limited and Nasona Oil Company Limited for the supply of textbooks and fuel respectively to the district directorate of the GES.

Mr Osei-Tutu, now at large, is suspected to have forged the signatures of the district director of GES, Mrs Agnes Attagabe and other signatories, and cashed the various amounts in cheques, some of which were presented by Action Aid-Ghana, sponsors of the REVs in the district.
