Fisherman jailed 12 years for defilement

Cape Coast, Nov 4, GNA - The Cape Coast Metropolitan Court presided over by Mrs Florence Oto has sentenced a 50-year-old fisherman, Ekow Esirilifie, to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 13 year old girl.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.

Inspector Daniel Agbezulor, the prosecutor told the court that on Monday October 18 this year, at about 1800 hours, the accused sent the victim to his room, but unknown to her, the accused followed up, grabbed her and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

He said the girl later revealed her ordeal to her father, Mr Isaac Quansah, who is also complainant in the case. Upon reporting to the police, the complainant was asked to send the victim to the hospital for examination and treatment.

Esirilifie was arrested and the case was referred to the Cape Coast Domestic Violence and Victim support Unit, where upon questioning he admitted to the offence.

He was charged with the offence and put before court.
