Film producer in court for stealing

Kumasi, June 9, GNA - A circuit court in Kumasi on Tuesday remanded a film producer for allegedly stealing two passports, a gold ring and sixty-two packets of pampers.

Emmanuel Gyesi Kofi, who denied the charges, will re-appear on July 3. Prosecuting, Police Inspector C K Fosu, told the court presided over by Madam Wilhelmina Hammond that the complainant was a trader resident at Tanoso in Kumasi and the accused person a film producer. He said in the year 2006 the complainant knew the accused through her sister, a film star working with the accused.

The prosecution said after the death of complainant's husband, accused and his colleagues had been using the complainant's house as a location for their film production.

He said the accused in due course secured a room in the house and as a result had access to the complainant's room. Chief Inspector Fosu said the complainant detected the loss of her Ghanaian passport, that of her late husband's Italian passport, a gold ring and sixty-two packets of pampers from her room. He said through the complainant's own investigation she found out from one of the accused person's colleagues that the accused had planned to sell both passports out at a cost of 12 million cedis and that some time earlier had brought a quantity of pampers sachets, which he was selling.

Prosecutor said the accused person could not be traced until May 25, this year when he was arrested. He said in his cautioned statement accused admitted taking the quantity of pampers sachets but denied knowledge of the passports and the gold ring. 09 June 07
