Farmer jailed 12 years for defiling cousin

Asamankese, Jan. 09, GNA- The Asamankese Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced George Danso, a farmer to 12-years imprisonment for defiling his 13-year-old cousin.

Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that both Danso and the victim, a primary school girl lived in the same house at Akyem Takyiman and did "everything together".

On October 30 when the girl returned from school, Danso asked her to accompany him to the bush to collect some bunches of banana. The prosecutor said after the girl had collected a small quantity of banana into a polythene bag, Danso pushed her to the ground, covered her mouth with his hand to prevent her from shouting and forcibly, had sex with her. He said after satisfying himself, Danso warned the victim not to disclose her ordeal to the mother else he would kill her and then went into hiding.

The girl who was in pain and bleeding, told the mother of her ordeal when she returned home. The prosecutor said on November 13, Danso was arrested at Akyem Dompin where he had gone into hiding and handed over to the police. In his caution statement, he admitted having had sexual intercourse with the girl on three occasions in his room but denied having carnally known her in the bush.
