Farmer allegedly rapes daughter

A CIRCUIT Court at Akropong in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region has remanded in custody, a farmer who allegedly raped his 16-year-old daughter.

Akuffo Addo, a resident of Asempaneye, a village near Adawso in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region, who appeared before the Akropong-Akuapem Circuit Court yesterday pleaded not guilty and has been remanded to reappear before the court on January 18, 2007.

Giving the facts of the case to the court, presided over by Mr. Yaw Owusu Kwarteng, Detective Chief Inspector P.K. Nyanueke said the accused person had been married to the victim’s mother for the past 22 years and the couple had seven children.

He stated that on September 21, 2006 the victim’s mother left Asempaneye to participate in Akuapem Odwira Festival but she could not return the same day.

According to him, during that night, the victim was sleeping in a single room with the accused and her junior brother. The accused person was said to have gone to lie by the victim and started to remove her underwear.

Detective Chief Inspector Nyanueke indicated that as the victim attempted to shout for help, the accused warned her that if she did not keep quiet he would kill her and then forcibly had sex with her.
