Ex-Convict jailed 12 months for stealing GHC 1 worth of palm fruit

Kade, Nov 1, GNA – A 22-year-old unemployed, Kwasi Agyei, who recently served a term in prison for unlawful entry and stealing is going back to serve a 12-month term. He was convicted and sentenced when he appeared before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu for stealing palm fruits. Mr Illiasu described Agyei as unrepentant and incorrigible offender and said though the fruit he collected was worth only one Ghana cedi he would have stolen a greater quantity had he not been caught. Agyei pleaded guilty with an explanation that he collected only a few loose palm fruits from a neighbour’s farm to prepare palm soup when he was arrested. Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was an electronic technician who had a farm at the outskirts of Kade. He said on October 17, the complainant visited his farm and on arrival met Agyei collecting the palm fruits and arrested him.
