Driver's mate remanded for defilement

A drivers' mate, Francis Mensah was on Wednesday remanded into Police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 14 year girl in a kiosk at Odorkor, Accra.

Mensah, believed to be in his mid 20’s, charged with defilement, pleaded not guilty. He is expected to re-appear on September 30, for trial to commence before the court presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyeman-Budu.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo told the court that the complainant is a lotto receiver at the Odorkor Lorry Park. The accused person also plies his trade at the lorry park.

On August 30, this year, at about 1000 hours, Mensah lured the victim into a kiosk at Odorkor, near the Presbyterian Church and had sex with her. ASP Boafo said a witness in the matter saw Mensah luring the victim into his kiosk and became suspicious and informed the complainant.

The prosecutor said the complainant quickly asked the witness to accompany her to the accused person’s kiosk. When they reached there, prosecution said the complainant knocked several times at the door but Mensah ignored her.

Complainant, the prosecutor said, they entered the kiosk only to find the accused person and the victim naked on a mat.

Prosecution said they dragged Mensah and the victim to the Odorkor Police Station and during interrogation, Mensah admitted the offence in his investigation caution statement.
