Driver jailed for defilement

A 19-year old driver was on Friday sentenced to seven years imprisonment for defiling a 14 year old girl at Lapaz a suburb in Accra.

Kobby Fasemkye pleaded guilty to the charge of the defilement. His sentence was however deferred as the age of the victim was in doubt.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava however ordered the Police to send the victim to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for age assessment.

The result of the age assessment indicated that the victim was 14 years.

Prosecuting, Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant was the victim’s uncle. Fasemkye and the victim are friends residing at Lapaz.

On August 16, this year, the victim was sent on an errand and on reaching a spot near Lapaz Amasaman Trotro Station, Fasemkye lured the victim into an uncompleted building and had sex with her.

Prosecution said after the act, the victim spent the night in the convict’s room. The following morning, the victim went home and when she was quizzed “she let the cat out of the bag.”

A report was made to the Police at Tesano where a medical form was issued to the victim to enable her to go for treatment.

According to prosecution Fasemkye was arrested and in his cautioned statement admitted the offence.
