Driver banned for using wrong diesel

Tema, April 14, GNA - Executive members of Tema Motorway branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have placed a three-week ban on one of their drivers for using wrong diesel in his vehicle. The driver, whose name was given as Dela and drives Nissan Urvan with registration number GT 2841 U, filled his tank with dirty and black diesel which is against their regulations. Mr Nathan Badu, Secretary of the branch union, said this at a road safety campaign organized for its members in Tema. He said it was wrong to use inappropriate diesel because it has effect on the exhaust pipe and disturbs smooth driving. Mr Badu said some of the drivers, in a bid to cheat their car owners, buy the diesel known as "bele" diesel cheaply from retailers by the roadside.

Addressing the drivers Deputy Commissioner of Police John Kudalor, Tema Regional Police Commander, stressed the need for drivers to be disciplined on the roads. He expressed regret that 11 deaths have already been recorded in the Tema Municipality between January and March. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joshua Dogbedu, Tema Municipal Police Commander, urged the public to discard the notion that the carnage on the roads is the work of spiritual powers.
