Court jails three robbers for 45 years

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA - Three persons who robbed an information technologist on the Kaneshie foot bridge and made away with his laptop, accessories and mobile phone, were on Thursday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each by an Accra Fast Track High Court. This was after the court had found them guilty on two counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery and convicted them accordingly. They are Alhassan Paul, Enoch Abbey and Moro Suley. Their accomplice one Osei, who is at large was however tried in absentia.

Mr Augustine Obuor, a Senior State Attorney, said at about 0400 hours on January 21, the complainant Mr Sylvester Konadu was walking on the Kaneshie foot bridge when Alhassan followed him with a lamp and ordered him to surrender his laptop and phone after pulling out a knife. While Alhassan searched him, Abbey also emerged and pointed out a knife at complainant's rib and took away his bag. The prosecution said Suley joined his colleagues on the foot bridge and succeeded in attacking and robbing the complainant of his belongings, after which they bolted.

The complainant reported the matter to the police and later, identified Alhassan as one of the people who robbed him of his belongings.

The police while escorting Alhassan, spotted Suley and Abbey and they were also arrested at the Awudome Cemetery and Kwame Nkrumah's Circle. During police interrogation they admitted the offence and after investigations they were charged.
