Court jails three robbers 120 years

An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday jailed three robbers who attacked a tailor at the Nkrumah Circle footbridge with knife to a total of 120 years imprisonment.

The convicts are Musah Mohammed, Kofi Yeboah, Kwame Owusu alias Ampoma, all unemployed and Adams Sifiw, a trader.

However, one Ibrahim, fifth accused is at large.

Mohammed, Yeboah and Owusu pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery, and were convicted on their own plea.

Mohammed and Owusu were sentenced to five years each for conspiracy, and 25 years each on robbery, while Yeboah was jailed for 10 years for conspiracy and 50 years for robbery all to run concurrently.

However, Adams who was charged separately for dishonestly receiving, pleaded not guilty and was remanded into prison custody to re-appear on July 31.

Police Superintendent Kofi Blagodzi prosecuting, said the complaint, a tailor lives at Kasoa, while all the convicts and their accomplices lived at Kokomba market.

He said on July 8, the complainant who was coming from work got to Kwame Nkrumah Circle footbridge where he was attacked and robbed.

The prosecutor said that he was robbed of two mobile phones and GH¢72 cash.

Superintendent Blagodzi said some witnesses who saw the incident rushed to the scene and on seeing them, the robbers took to their heals but Mohammed was arrested and one of the mobile phones and GH¢5.00 cash was retrieved from him and subsequently handed him over to the Police.

The prosecutor said during interrogation, Mohammed admitted the offence and mentioned Yeboah, Owusu and Ibrahim as his accomplices and led the Police to arrest them at their hideout.

He said the accused persons admitted their involvement in the crime and Owusu led the Police to Adams as the person who bought the other mobile phone for GH¢8.00

The prosecutor said the complainant’s Tigo SIM card, knife, pliers and a pair of scissors were retrieved from Yeboah’s room during a search, and efforts were being made by the Police to locate and arrest Ibrahim for prosecution.**
