Court jails second-hand clothes dealer for kidnapping

Wamfie, (B/A), May 26, GNA - A District Court at Wamfie in the Dormaa East District has sentenced a 21 year-old second-hand clothes dealer, Kwame Isaac, to two years imprisonment for kidnapping and holding a 19 year-old girl hostage for two weeks. Chief Inspector A.A. Duodu told the court presided over by Kaakyire Atta-Owusu that the victim, Linda Adu-Twumwaa, picked a quarrel with her mother and left home unceremoniously.

He said her mother, Madam Vida Gyamfi, reported the matter to the police who immediately launched a search for her. Chief Inspector Duodu said two weeks later, the police had a tip-off that the girl was being kept by the accused. He said when the police checked at the residence of the accused the two were found relaxing.

Chief Inspector Duodu said when Isaac was charged with kidnapping, he pleaded innocent saying Linda was his girlfriend and this was known to her family. The court however declined Isaac's plea saying he held the girl unlawfully.
