Court jails mason for defilement

When a mason confessed to a trader that he had defiled her 14-year-old daughter, little did he know that his action would send him to jail.

Kojo Kugblenu, 18 years, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by Accra Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo told the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman Budu that the complainant was the mother of the victim. The complainant and the victim reside at Golf City at Sakumono.

Prosecution said Kugblenu also live within the vicinity.

According to prosecution, Kugblenu was the boyfriend of the victim and the two had been dating for a year during which Kugblenu had sex with the victim once.

In August ASP Boafo said Kugblenu informed the victim’s mother that he had sex with the victim.

Prosecution said the complainant who did not take kindly to Kugblenu’s conduct reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

The Police issued a medical form to the victim so she could attend hospital and report back.

On Sept 21, this year, Kugblenu was arrested but denied the offence in his caution statement.
