Court jails laptop thieves 15 years each

The Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu, has sentenced two thieves to 15 years each for stealing a laptop belonging to a couple living at Eyifua a suburb of Cape Coast.

Kwesi Moses, 27 and Kojo Ackon, 29, both traders who reside in Accra, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and were convicted on their own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Charles Anku, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainants, Mr and Mrs. Amil on Friday, October 5 left home for work.

He said the convicts who had traveled from Accra to Cape Coast went to the vicinity to ply their wares and on reaching the house of the couple they noticed that no one was at home.

Chief Inspector Anku said the two jumped over the fence wall into the compound and destroyed the window, mosquito net and a metal burglar proof and entered the room.

The two stole the laptop but luck, however run out on them as Mrs Amil returned home unexpectedly and saw the convicts ready to leave the scene with their booty.

The prosecutor said on seeing the complainant, the two men quickly jumped over the wall and took to their heels but the complainant raised the alarm which attracted some neighbours to the scene and they assisted to arrest them and retrieved the laptop.

He said the thieves were beaten by an angry mob that nearly lynched them but were saved by the police who got wind of the theft.
